Select the answer on a predefined numeric scale

The Numeric Slider question allows respondents to select the answer or rate an item or statement on a numerical scale by dragging an interactive slider. The numeric slider has a configurable scale, where the slider range, the step size, the number of digits to be used for the scale and the units of the scale are customizable.

To add a Numeric Slider question to your questionnaire:

  1. Go to the DESIGN tab and click + in the Pages section

  2. In the question selection dialog, select Numeric Slider and click ADD

  3. Configure the question by entering the question text, the minimum and maximum values, the step size and the number of digits to be user for the slider scale.

The Numeric Slider question has following configurable elements:

  • Question text*: the question you want to ask your respondents.

  • Details: additional information to be communicated to the respondents, like details on how to answer the question. Will be displayed in smaller font than the message text.

  • Min*: the lowest left end of the slider scale. Default value is 0. Integer and decimal numbers are allowed (e.g. 1.5)

  • Max*: the highest value and right end of the slider scale. Default value is 10. Integer and decimal numbers are allowed (e.g. 10.5)

  • Number of digits*: Number of decimals values to be used for the slider scale.

  • Step size*: The size of one step of the slider. For example, having Min = 0 and Max = 10 and a step size of 0.5 would lead to a slider that allows to select the values: 0; 0.5; 1; 1,5 ... 8.5; 9; 9.5; 10. The default step size is 1. Integer and decimal numbers are allowed. The step size has to fulfill the criteria that it can be mapped an integer number of times withing the slider range. Expressed in a formula, that means that (Max - Min)/step size has to be an integer value.

  • Show slider value: if checked, the selected value of the numeric slider will be displayed to the respondent. Otherwise the respondents sees the slider position but no value will be displayed for it.

  • Show Min and Max: if selected, the min and max range values of the numeric slider will be displayed to the respondent. Otherwise the range is not displayed.
